We will issue your library card on-site during your visit to any library branch, or you can register from home via the online pre-registration.
Your registration is valid at all library branches.
Without registration, you can:
- browse the online catalogue on a public PC
- browse the book selection in any branch’s departments
- attend events at any library branch
Yes, a student/teacher card entitles you to a student discount on registration and can also serve as your library card.
At library branches, you can pay in cash only. However, registration fees and fines can also be paid remotely via bank transfer.

You can visit us during the borrowing hours of our branches and borrow a book on-site.
You can also request a loan remotely via the online catalogue.
We will prepare the book for you, send you an SMS and email notification, and you can come pick it up.

Borrow from Us
You can borrow a book in two ways:
- directly at one of our branches
- by placing a request through the online catalogue
If you’re not yet a registered reader, you can register at any branch or via the online pre-registration form.
Instructions for accessing eBooks and audiobooks can be found on the Services page.
In general, you’ll need to install an app on your mobile phone or tablet, where your borrowed eBooks and audiobooks will be available.
You can have up to 10 books and 10 magazines borrowed at the same time.
The standard loan period is 1 month.
You can renew your loans by phone, email, or through your account in the online catalogue up to 2 times, for a total of 3 months.
First and foremost, please inform us as soon as possible. We will then determine how the lost book should be replaced.
Yes, a borrowed book can be reserved for you by a librarian at the branch, or you can do it yourself in the online catalogue.
Once the book is returned, you will receive an email and SMS notification, and it will be prepared for you at the relevant branch.
This service is subject to a fee according to the current price list.
Book Request (Shelf Hold Service) – the book is available at a branch, but you don’t have time to look for it and want to pick it up directly.
Book Reservation – the book is currently borrowed and you want to request it in advance so you can pick it up as soon as it is returned.
Both services are subject to a fee according to the current price list.

Yes, unless stated otherwise, events are free of charge. IT courses for seniors are subject to a fee.
Yes, if you have books you no longer need, they may find new readers with us.
We kindly ask that you notify our Collection Development Department in advance, which will decide which titles can be added to our collection.
No, we are a library for everyone, regardless of residence or nationality.
Yes, you can find foreign language books mainly at the following branches:
- Blumentálska 10/a (the largest collection of foreign fiction)
- Panenská 1 (the most dictionaries and learning materials)
