At the end of April, we are opening the exhibition Plastic Bag, which presents the personal collection of plastic bags by artist Michal Moravčík (1974–2016).
The exhibition is organised in cooperation with the Bratislava City Gallery and takes place during the project “Sediments of the World”, dedicated to the collecting impulse in visual art (curator Naďa Kančevová).
Michal Moravčík’s plastic bag collection represents a distinctive development of the theme of collecting in an artistic context.
The installation of the collection will be officially opened on 30 April 2025 at 18:00 at Záhrebská 8 by curator Mira Keratová and artist Jana Kapelová.
The multimedia artist Ľubo Burgr will perform songs by Ali ibn Rachid.
Admission to the event is free.
“Moravčík’s artistic practice often drew on observations of everyday domestic life, typically in panel block apartments, where he noticed the unique habits of their residents. Through these observations, he uncovered broader social concepts underlying these behaviours and showed how they subtly penetrate all of us,” says curator Mira Keratová.
“I am delighted that visitors and our readers will have the opportunity to search for traces of social change in this unusual collection,” adds Jana Slezáková, Director of Staromestská knižnica.
