Grants and Subsidies

2023

Every Moment with a Book Counts – the purchase of library materials from public funds was supported by the Slovak Arts Council with a grant of €10,000.

Thanks to this subsidy, the library expanded and enriched its collection with 694 new titles and 1,137 copies of the latest fiction and non-fiction for children and young adults.

New additions include: board books (picture and interactive), books for the youngest readers (fairy tales, nursery rhymes), for preschool and early school age (fairy tales, poems, fables and legends), for teenagers (girls’ novels, adventure stories, required reading, comics, fantasy, bilingual literature), and for young adults (romance, detective and dystopian novels, fantasy, comics…), as well as educational literature in the fields of civics, history, geography, science, zoology, addiction, factual literature, natural sciences, technology, and encyclopaedias. In addition to Slovak-language literature, the collection was also expanded with foreign-language titles (mainly English and German).

In line with the project requirements, at least 20% of the awarded funding was used for the purchase of books, subscriptions to magazines, or other periodicals published with the support of the Slovak Arts Council. All materials acquired through this project are marked in the top right corner of the front endpaper with a label stating Funded by the Slovak Arts Council from public sources and bearing the Council’s logo. They are freely available at all branches of Staromestská knižnica.
